Fund Your Health by Reducing Low Back Pain (Part 2) by Dr. Lisa Williams

HEALTH PORTFOLIO (H-Portfolio)

Health = Wealth

H-Asset: Spinal Wealth

H-Investment: Hydration

Hydrating the body is another very wise H-Investment that improves your overall health and wealth. Building an H-Portfolio that includes this H-investment (Hydration) is very affordable (and in most places FREE). Reducing the astronomical cost of low back pain treatments warrants this sort of H-Investment. I am aware of the tremendous economic burden of low back pain (estimated total cost of $100 to 200 billon dollars a year), and I don’t want to be a statistic. How about YOU?

Saving-your-back is your savings bank. If, somehow, you have not been influenced by the many people who have told you to stay hydrated, I say, start drinking. I think it is always important to know what H-Investment should be funded first, because people don’t always feel thirsty for health until they’re already sick and dehydrated. Here is my H=W (Health = Wealth) formula: I drink half of my body weight in ounces of fluid a day, either in water or herbal tea. For example, a 100 pound person requires 50 ounces of fluid a day to keep the discs in the spine hydrated. This small H-Contribution can help your H-Portfolio, benefiting your back with the power of water.

Our bodies are largely made up of water, and optimal function of our body is improved through hydration. This is especially true of the spine. Each of our intervertebral discs has a high water content. Hydrating the body, and indirectly, the fluid in the discs in your spine, is very important in maintaining the nutrient diffusion.

According to the National Commission on Prevention Priorities, preventive services not only save lives, but also save money. Such measures could save nearly two million lives and nearly $4 billion dollars a year! Hopefully, prevention will be your new focus too.

I truly hope it is becoming easier for you to understand why rebalancing your body is very important for your short-term and long-term H-Investment. I cannot express the importance of building an H-Portfolio that includes this important H-Investment. This is just one more way to pay your health forward by adding H-Investments to your and your family’s H-Portfolio that could fund your health. It is never too early or too late to invest in your health.
