Maintaining a healthy weight is another very wise H-Investment that improves your overall health and wealth. Cardiovascular health needs to be reviewed on an ongoing basis to evaluate whether you and your family are comfortable with your overall H-Portfolio. One out of every three deaths are caused by cardiovascular disease in the United States. In 2016, there were 801,000 deaths linked to cardiovascular disease. The astronomical cost of cardiovascular treatments warrants this sort of H-Investment because our current path of $33 billion on strokes, and $207 billion on heart disease will far exceed the cost of prevention. Chronic debilitating illnesses drain our finances and happiness.
Cardiovascular Wealth is our protective wall against inflammation. We can’t control inflation, but we can try to control inflammation and the health problems that occur from it. This important H-Asset, Cardiovascular Wealth, should be the driving force in any H-Portfolio. Here is my H=W (Health = Wealth) formula: Maintaining a healthy weight is always a good H-Idea, and it will give you a slow and steady return on your H-Investments. That is why I include a variety of mostly organic fruits and vegetables, whole grains and protein, as well foods that enrich my cardiovascular health. I also limit my intake of sugars. My diet is rich in avocados, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, mixed greens, sweet potatoes, eggs, and various seeds and nuts. According to the World Heart Federation, a diet low in saturated fats and increased fruits and vegetables can decrease new major cardiac events by 73 percent (2017). Yes, that is 73 percent! I strongly believe that preventing difficulties and managing them when they are small is the key to a healthy life.
According to the National Commission on Prevention Priorities, preventive services not only save lives, but also save money. Such measures could save nearly two million lives and nearly $4 billion dollars a year! What you invest in your health should be an important decision, and sound food choices could certainly help grow your H-Portfolio over time.
