HEALTH PORTFOLIO (H-Portfolio)
Health = Wealth
H-Asset: Family Wealth
My Fund Your Health Series is about sharing my journey to wellness and how each fork in the road taught me something valuable. In the early 2000s, I was at a life-changing fork in the road. I had to decide my path; surgery or no surgery. I had been on 20 different medications at one point, and visited more than 30 specialists. I was considered by many doctors to be “a very interesting case.” I understood all too well what that phrase meant. At that point of my life, I was a clinic administrator and understood the “interesting” concepts in healthcare. Not only was I sick, I was sick of being sick, and I decided to “take my own health back.” I have helped a lot of people over the years, and took a lot of “notes” and tried to find out why some people “failed” and others “succeeded” in regaining their health. When it comes to H-Investments, Diversification Matters. Just as your financial portfolio should be fully diversified, your overall H-Portfolio should take you into your golden years.
Here is my H=W (Health = Wealth) formula: When you build an H-Portfolio that is diverse and filled with H-Investments that you love, you don’t get bored, and that makes it much easier to comply. In finance, diversification is the practice of reducing your exposure to any one type of asset class by spreading your investments around. I believe diversity in H-Investments matters too, because the journey to health is always changing, just like the stock market. By using the right H-Investment at the right moment, your H-Portfolio will improve over time. Age, lifestyle choices, and risk factors are all important components of a diverse H-Portfolio.
I don’t claim to know what is best for you, or even what is best for me at all times, because our health is always changing, but keep in mind the more you H-Invest, the more H-Money you have in your H-Retirement for you and your family. Just like investing your money into the stock market, you must give your H-investment time to bear fruit.
According to the National Commission on Prevention Priorities, preventive services not only save lives, but also save money. Such measures could save nearly two million lives and nearly $4 billion dollars a year! Preventive measures may include particular activities that enhance balance and awareness in order to prevent falls, like Tai Chi, or specific exercises like yoga that can enhance bone density to prevent osteoporosis.
I cannot express the importance of building an H-Portfolio that includes this important H-Investment. This is just one more way to pay your health forward by adding smart H-Investments to your and your family’s H-Portfolio. It is never too early or too late to invest in your health.
